Company became part of United Aircraft & Transport Corporation which Boeing established in February 1929 as a holding company for the airlines it owned. It later became known as United Air Lines (also called Boeing System) but was still just a holding company for NAT National Air Transport/Stout Airlines responsible for the New York - Chicago leg, Varney Air Lines flying the Salt Lake City - Seattle leg, Pacific Air Transport covering the Seattle - Los Angeles route and Boeing Air Transport responsible for the Chicago - San Francisco leg. Through its divisions it offered transcontinental service from New York to San Francisco and Seattle to Los Angeles. After congress passed the mail act of 1934 all the mail contracts were cancelled and all United Aircraft and Transport member airlines became one United Air Lines.
