Pacific Coastal Airlines was established in 1987 by the merger of Powell Air and the Port Hardy division of Air BC. The airline operates scheduled regional service throughout British Columbia, including float plane service out of Port Hardy to more than 200 destinations along British Columbia's coast.
On 5 May 2016, float plane division spun off as Wilderness Seaplanes, based in Port Hardy.
