Major commercial aircraft leasing company has its beginning in 1958 founded charter airline called Bavaria Fluggesellschaft. This company became in 1974 Bavaria Germanair and was finally sold to Hapag Lloyd in 1977. Schörghuber Corporation, which owned Bavaria since 1969, continued to exist and and in 1980 entered into its first independent aircraft lease when it acquired 2 Boeing 737s for Monarch Airlines of UK. Thus BIAL was born. To this day, BIAL is subsidiary of Schörghuber Corporate Group.
