Company was formed in 1957 by Josef Schorghuber. Bavaria commenced operations in Januray 1958 using Piper Apache providing air taxi service. Cargo flights on behalf of Lufthansa and holiday tour charter flights commenced in 1960. In March 1977 company merged with Germanair to form Bavaria Germanair Airlines. Bavaria Germanair was acquired in 1979 by Hapag Lloyd. Howerver, part of Bavaria survived in form of aircraft leasing company Bavaria International Aircraft Leasing which has become one of the major players in the industry.
