Low cost airline founded by David Neeleman (Morris Air and jetBlue founder). It has ordered fleet of Embraer 195s (76). Inaugural flight between airlines base at Campinas to Salvador was conducted in December 15th 2008. Scheduled service to Porto Alegre, Recife, Fortaleza, Curitiba and Vitoria were added in January and February 2009 as more aircraft joined fleet. First Embraers were part of JetBlue order and were transfered until Azul receives its own order. In December 2010, Azul received its first ATR 72 aircraft which enabled Azul to serve efficiently very short routes. By 2011, Azul LA had 4,500 employees, 49 aircraft serving 42 destinations with 350 daily departures and transporting 15 million passengers annualy. This gave Azul 10% domestic marketshare. In May 2012 Azul and another fast growing Brazilian regional airline TRIP Linhas Aereas merged under Azul TRIP S.A. holding company. Both brands Azul and TRIP are preserved and Azul changes its logo to match that of TRIP. By 2013, company grew to 10,000 employees serving 104 destination and conducting 860 daily departures - capturing 30% of Brazil's domestic market. On December 14th Azul commence international flights by serving Fort Lauderdale from its hub at Campinas followed later that month with flights to Orlando using Airbus A330s. Both destinations are JetBlue Airways hubs allowing for easy transfer.
