FTA 2F Frontier Flying Service Frontier Air USA United States

note

Frontier Flying Service was founded in 1950, catering to Alaska bush communities, primarily around Fairbanks. The company provided charters throughout the state as well as mail service for Wien Air Alaska. In 1974, Frontier was purchased by John Hajdukovich. The company continued to grow with its acquisition in 2005 of Cape Smythe Air Services, taking on that company's equipment and infrastructure. Frontier and Hageland Aviation Services began merger talks in 2008, eventually combining to form the parent company HoTH and rebrand their new services as Frontier Alaska. In 2009 HoTH acquired Era Aviation, so all three airlines began trading as Era Alaska, maintaining their separate operations. Shortly thereafter, the passenger operations of Frontier were split between Era and Hageland, and Frontier became a cargo operator. In 2014, Era changed its brand name to Ravn Alaska, with Frontier's operation becoming Ravn Connect. Frontier continued to operate cargo only and “on demand charters.” RAVN Group filed for bankruptcy on April 5, 2020, causing all of its subsidiaries. Frontier's certificates were sold to Active Aero Group, but nothing developed from that.
