note
Independent ad-hoc charter airline based at Gatwick south of London commenced operations in 1959 using Douglas DC-3s second hand from Aer Lingus. Airline was bought out in 1962 by Mr. Wilson and renamed it to TransGlobe Airways in 1965. The same year company applied for foreign air-carrier permit with the CAB. In 1966 Bolton Steamship Co. acquired 42% stake in the company. Airline abruptly went into liquidation in November 1968. New company, Tradewinds Airways, was formed, in essence, to carry on TransGlobe Airways contracts. Tradewinds took over some of the fleet and most of employees.
