Cargo airline established by Consolidated Freightway, 3rd largest trucking enterprise in the U.S. based in Washington state. CF relied on other carriers namely Eastern to ship its transcontinental overnight cargo, but decided to form its own airline in 1986. It relied on independent contractors to operated its flights, namely Air Train which later became Emery Worldwide and Spirit of America Airlines.
Airline operated worldwide cargo flights, including Singapore, Australia and Japan. In April 1989 Consolidated Freightways acquired Emery Air Freight and absorbed CF Air Freight operations into new company called Emery Worldwide.
Consolidated Freightways declared bankruptcy in September 2002. Its non unionized less then truck load subsidiary CNF survived and continues to trade as Con-Way.
