note
Continental Express, Inc. was created in 1993 as part of Continental Airlines bankruptcy reorganization to operate its regional airline services. It received its operating certificate on April 26, 1993, with the transfer of the Britt/Rocky Mountain certificate.
On July 10, 2001, the ExpressJet name was adopted in anticipation of a spin-off from Continental Airlines. The IPO for ExpressJet Holdings was completed in April 2002 and the airline became independent of Continental Air Lines although it continued to operate as Continental Express. In 2004 ExpressJet carried over 13 million passengers and introduced flights to Mexico. In 2007 ExpressJet started flights to 24 cities under its own brand as well as Delta Connection service out of Los Angeles in June. The Delta contract lasted only until September 2008.
Skywest Inc. acquired ExpressJet in 2010, and merged it with Atlantic Southeast on January 1, 2012. Atlantic Southeast was renamed ExpressJet Airlines.
