Vail Airways

note

Rocky Mountain began operations as Vail Airways in 1966 flying an Aero Commander. In the 1970s it acquired Twin Otters and Dash 7s for its expanding and unique route system. In 1986 it was acquired by Texas Air and became Continental Express on July 1. On September 1, 1990, Britt Airways assumed the operations of Rocky Mountain, but the company continued to maintain its own air carrier certificate. On July 31, 1991, the operating certificates of Britt and Rocky Mountain were combined in both names. The two carriers were finally merged into a new entity, Continental Express Inc., on April 26, 1993.
