Airline can trace its history to Muse Air which was founded by Lamar Marion Muse once a Southwest Airlines executive. Airline operated regional scheduled service throughout Texas starting on Houston - Dallas route using Douglas DC-9s. Airline has struggled to make profit. ATC workers strike in 1982 made it ever more so difficult. Airline expanded service to Louisiana, Florida and Southern California. In 1987 still struggling carrier was acquired by Southwest Airlines. SWA rebranded MuseAir to Transtar Airlines and continued to operate it as a separate brand. Airline could not turn things around and was shut down in August 1987.
