Nordic Aviation Group was founded in September 2015 by the Estonian Government following the liquidation of the previous national carrier, Estonia Air. Flights began November 8, 2015 between Tallinn and Amsterdam (using a BMI Regional wet-lease). Subsidiary Regional Jet OU, which was 49% owned by LOT Polish Airlines, received its operating certificate in February 2016. It took over the operation of former Estonian CRJ-700 and -900 aircraft that had been flying under an operating agreement with Adria. The Nordica brand name was adopted in March 2016. Nordica offered charters as well as some scheduled flights from Tallinn as well as from Eelde (Netherlands). In 2017, Regional Jet began operating subservices for SAS using ATR72s; later, CRJ-900s were added to that contract. By the end of 2018, scheduled flights had dwindled to a few routes. Beginning July 1, 2019, flights from Tallin to Brussels, Stockholm, and Warsaw were serviced by LOT, and on October 26, Nordica's remaining scheduled services were suspended. Flight operations were still maintained by Regional Jet. Regional Jet OU was rebranded XFly in March 2020; Nordic Aviation Group acquired the LOT shares of xFly in January 2021. Nordica acquired its own certificate in July 2021. In 2022 the airline added an A320 to its fleet for ACMI services. In 2023 the company began negotiations with investors in order to privatize. In September 2024, SAS announced that it would be terminating its ACMI contract in November. The investor pulled out of the privatization deal, and o November 18, the airline shut down and filed for bankruptcy.
