Monarch is one of the longest operating and largest charter and inclusive tour operators in United Kingdom. Monarch commenced operations in April 1968 using Bristol Britannia aircraft. From its beginning, Monarch operated flights to Mediterranean resorts as well as the Americas and the Middle East. Monarch received its first pure jet, a Boeing 720, in December 1971. Monarch began replacement of its short-haul BAC 111 in October 1980 when it received first Boeing 737. Monarch was one of the first operators to introduce Boeing 757 in March 1983 when it took delivery of its first one. Boeing 757 became mainstay of the fleet for its next 20 years. Recapitalized in 2014 (Greybull Capital LCC). Airline placed into receivership at 0400 on Monday 02 Oct 2017 after long period of financial turmoil and all aircraft and flights grounded and cancelled leaving 410 000 ticket holders stranded.
