Founded by San Antonio real estate investor Doug Jaffe, who also owns aircraft brokerage firm Comtran International Inc., and Houston oilman Oscar Wyatt Jr. (Coastal Corp.) Company purchased 90 ageing jets from US Airways (49 Boeing 737-200s, 25 McDonnell Douglas DC-9s and 16 McDonnell Douglas MD-80s) and leases them to airlines in developing world namely latin America and Africa. US Airways had to unload many jets in wake of 9/11 and Jetran took advantage of it. Jetran International also formed partnership with romanian manufacturer Romaero to overhaul and modify MD-80 aircraft.
