VivaColombia was a Colombian low-cost airline based in Medellín, Colombia. At first Viva Colombia had two options for operation of aircraft: the Boeing 737 or Airbus A320. In a press conference on November 10, 2011, was announced to the public that in 2012, the aircraft chosen will be the A320 fitted with CFM engines high performance for the airline's better economy and improved consumer prices. The company was owned in equal parts by Irelandia Aviation, I.A.M.S.A., Colombian Grupo Bolívar and Grupo FAST. It had a similar livery to a Mexican low-cost carrier, VivaAerobus, except VivaColombia will have the yellow, blue, and red colored dots on the tail.
Airline serves domestic destinations including San Andres island. International destinations include Miami and Lima.
Irelandia Aviation has also developed other four airlines, namely Viva Air Perú, Ryanair, Allegiant Air and Tigerair
On April 29, 2022, Avianca announced it had taken a controlling state in Viva Air, with the intention to merge the rwo carriers. The plan faced government opposition for competitive reasons. Viva Air eventually filed for bankruptcy in February 2023, citing its weakening financial position due to the lingering effects of COVID 19. It suspended operations on February 27. The Colombian government approved the merger with Avianca on March 21, 2023 subject to certain conditions, which are under review by Avianca.
