note
Established in 2001 as a low cost subsidiary of Air Canada that will enable its parent to better compete in leisure travel market targeted by Canada 3000 airlines. Airline's name was a combination of words tan and go because of its initial scope of operations primarily focused on sunny destinations in Florida, Caribbean and Mexico. Slump in airline leisure travel after September 11 2001 forced Air Canada to change strategy and tango operated primarily between major markets within Canada. Airline started service to Calgary, Edmonton, Halifax, Montreal, Ottawa, Vancouver and Winnipeg from its hub at Toronto. Fort Lauderdale and Orlando were added in its first winter schedule. Airline was absorbed back into Air Canada in September 2003. However, the "tango" brand survived as a lower priced option on regular Air Canada flights. Later, Air Canada revived the idea with the "Rouge" brand.
