Air Alps is an independent Austrian regional airline. Airline started operations under KLM Alps brand in March 1999 on Salzburg - Amsterdam route flying Dornier 328 turbojets. Airline switched its trade name to its company name Air Alps in 2001.
In June 2009, Air Alps filed for protection from creditors while airline reorganizes. Airline cut staff from 150 to 50 people and focused on air charter and scheduled regional service connecting south Tyrolean points (Bolzano, Rimini, Milan Malpensa and Parma) with Rome through strategic alliance with Alitalia. Airline also offers seasonal service to Olbia, Rijeka, Zadar, Hannover and Southern Italy. In 2005 South Tyrol province buys share in Air Alps.
BZS Holdings lead by Franz Senfer injected needed capital to keep Air Alps alive in exchange of ownership which now stands at 76%.
