note
Trans States began operations as Resort Air 1983 using two Metro IIs on flights linking St Louis with Jefferson City and Lake of the Ozarks. In 1985 it became a TWA Express carrier and by the end of the year was operating 15 Metro IIs and 4 Metro IIIs. It changed its name to Trans States Airlines on October 1, 1989.
In 1991 the airline acquired the TWA Express operation of Air Midwest, which included leases on 15 Jetstream 32s and 8 Brasilias; additional Jetstreams were leased to replace the Metros.
The airline opened a small Jetstream 32 operation on the west coast which operated as USAir Express, which eventually also code-shared with Alaska and Northwest on the same flights. Trans States replaced Trans World Express as TWA's JFK feeder in 1995, and became a Delta Connection carrier on the east coast in 1998 (DL services have since ended).
The airline began operating as a US Airways Express carrier in 2000 using Jetstream 41s and ERJ-145s from the Pittsburgh hub. With American's purchase of TWA's assets in 2001, Trans States became an American Connection carrier at St Louis, operating Jetstream 41s and ERJ-145s. In 2003 it began operating as United Express using ERJ-145s from the Chicago and Washington-Dulles hubs.
LOF ICAO code stands for "Lodge of the Four Seasons"
Trans States Holdings which owns the carrier along with GoJet and Compass airlines decided to shut down TSA citing difficulties to hire pilots razor thin margins in the regional airline market. Airline was scheduled to wind down operations through the end of 2020 but the drastic decline in demand due to COVID19 pandemic accelerated the process.
