The airline was established and started operations in 1948 as Newfoundland Airways. A change of ownership saw the name changed to Labrador Airways Ltd (dba Air Labrador). In 2010, the company's legal name was changed to Air Labrador Ltd. Air Labrador is wholly owned subsiidary of Pike Group founded in 1983 by Robert Pike. Pike Group companies include Tamalik Air Charter and Resorts, Harvey & Co. heavy machinery, Pro-Ex courier service, NFLD Kubota dealership and Notre Dame Seafood. Air Labrador operates scheduled service throughout Labrador, Quebec and Newfoundland. It also holds medevac contract with Grenfell Health in Labrador.
