Airline was founded as charter subsidiary of Japan Air Lines. Operations commenced in July 1991 on Fukuoka - Honolulu route with from Japan Air Lines leased DC-10 widebody airliner. Airline changed its name to JALWays in 1999 when airline started scheduled operations in October same year.
