Scheduled regional airline founded as a joint venture between Shenzhen Airlines (51%) and Mesa Air Group (49%). Operations commenced in September 2007 at Xi'an. Named after a mythical fish/bird, company started operations at Xi'an, Shaanxi province. In August 2008 company received first ERJ-190s of 5 ordered. In June 2009 Mesa Group sold its share in the enterprise Shenzhen Airlines and all their leased CRJ-200s were returned. Following year company changed name to Henan Airlines. It also moved its operations to Zhengzhou.
After a fatal accident in August 2010 involving one of their ERJ-190s, the Henan province cancelled their approval for the airline to be named after the province. Airline soon thereafter ceased operations
