Domestic airline of France formed in 1954 and commenced operations on March 17th 1958 operating Paris to Strasbourg flight. Airline operated eclectic fleet of Vicker Vikings, DC-3s, DC-6s and Lockheed Constellations leased from other carriers. First new aircraft arrived in 1965 when Air France ordered 3 Sud Caravelle for Air Inter. In May 1974 Air Inter became first and the only operator of Dassault Mercure short range medium size jet. In September 1976 first wide-body jet arrived - an Airbus A300. Air Inter was owned by Air France, UTA, French national railroad and rest by private investors. Airline merged into Air France in 1997.
