Iran Air, flag carrier of Islamic Republic of Iran was formed when Iranian Airways and Persian Air Services merged in November 1962. Vickers Viscounts of Iranian Airways and Boeing 707 of Persian Air Services were inherited. First wide-body jet was Boeing 747SP delivered in March 1976. First Airbus, an A300, joined fleet in March 1978. During the 1980s Boeing 707s, 747s and 727s and A300s formed the fleet. Iran Air operates dense domestic network and European destinations Paris, Geneva, Brussels, Milano, Frankfurt, Copenhagen, Oslo, Malmo, Madrid, Rome, Budapest, Istanbul, Athens and London are served. Iran Air also introduced long-haul flight of solidarity and Tehran, Damascus, Caracas route was introduced in 2004, but has been stopped since. Kuala Lumpur, Beijing, Dacca, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Jeddah, Riyadh, Damascus, Kuwait and Beirut are served in Asia. In January 2016 Iran Air ordered 12 A380s, 16 A350s, 45 A330s and 24 A320Neos from Airbus as its complete fleet renewal following lifting of sanctions.
