Vieques Air Link, was founded by Mr. Osvaldo González on October 14, 1965 as a one man operation renting a three passenger Cessna flying from Vieques to Humacao. Later that year he bought a Cherokee plane with capacity for six passengers and in 1966 he bought another one to expand his flights to San Juan.On April 5, 1967, Vieques Air Link was incorporated. On July 7, 1968 a two engine Britten-Norman Islander was added to the fleet with capacity for nine passengers. Vieques Air Link was the first operator of the type in the Caribbean. By this time Vieques Air Link has added flights to St. Croix and Culebra.
In 1980 newly opened Fajardo Airport was added to its schedule making it the most convenient link from both Vieques and Culebra Islands to the mainland Puerto Rico. In 1983, Vieques Air Link added to it's fleet a Britten-Norman Trislanders, a three engine plane with capacity for sixteen passengers. In 2002 VAL acquired its first Cessna 208 Caravan and has since received two more. Caravan's provide new level of comforts with turboprop engine, air conditioning and seating for nine passengers. VAL employes over 70 people and links Vieques with both San Juan airports and St. Croix. On demand flights are operated to Ceiba, Culebra and St. Thomas
