note

Founded as Gulf Aviation providing regional service throughout the Gulf region. BOAC was major shareholder until 1973 when governments of Bahrain, Abu Dhabi, Qatar and Oman bought BOACs share. Airline was renamed Gulf Air and become flag carrier of Bahrain, Qatar, Abu Dhabi and Oman up until 1999. Hence forth, airline is fully owned by Kingdom of Bahrain. Its scope of operations and status has declined accordingly. Airline introduced Gulf Traveler product - an all economy full service airline operating throughout the Gulf region. Gulf Air experienced difficult financial period which culminated in 2003 with corporate restructuring. Although airline lost its preeminence in Gulf region to likes of Emirates, Etihad and Qatar Airways, Gulf Air is still regarded as exceptional service carrier which introduced such unique services as in sky chefs and nannies.
