Domestic and regional arm of Iceland's national carrier Icelandair through holding company Icelandair Group. The company was founded in 1997, when Icelandair domestic service Flugleidir merged with another domestic airline, Flugfelag Nordurlands, which was founded in Akureyri in 1959. The Flugfelag Islands brand and its winged horse logo were used previously by Icelandair between 1959 until 1979 when it was dropped upon merger with Loftleidir. The airline serves domestic destinations Akureyri, Egilsstadir, Isafjordur, Vopnafjordur, Grimsey, Thorshofnas as well as the Faroe Islands and Nuuk, Kulusuk, Ittoqqortoormiit and Narsarsuaq in Greenland using Fokker 50 turboprops.
