Regional scheduled passenger and cargo airline. In 1946 Wollongong & South Coast Aviation Service Pty was founded and started operations in June 1947 using Avro Ansons between Tamworth and Sydney. Month later new name East-West Airlines was adopted. In 1950 Lockheed Hudson was used. In July 1953 East-West acquired surplus Douglas DC-3s and in August 1959 first turboprop Fokker F-27 Friendship was put into service. In March 1963 East-West acquired South Coast Airways. In April 1983 first pure jet, a Fokker F-28 joined the fleet. In 1984 East-West and Skywest Airlines of Perth became sister companies through Skywest Holdings Ltd and was operating regional network throughout entire Australia. In September 1990 airline changed its name to Eastwest Airlines. East-West was pioneer of low cost no frill airline in Australia. It was effectively competing with Ansett and TAA on key domestic routes through its network of intermediate stops between major cities. Since mid 1980s airline was in financial trouble and after 1990 was not able to make money. Ansett acquired Eastwest in 1993.
