note

Started operations as a brainchild of U.S. military executives and few celebrities to provide Executive Jet transport for those who can afford it. When bought out in early 80's by Goldman Sachs, operations were transformed to time share concept where companies and individuals could buy a share of airtime each of the aircraft in the fleet was going to operate yearly which was set at 800 hrs. All planes have similar interior. This allows airline to substitute jets depending on availability rather than particular plane each customer bought. Idea caught on and rapid expansion followed in the 90s. Today, NetJets operates more than 800 flights a day (with EJM and subcontracted fleets) with a fleet of 489 airplanes ranging from Embraer Phenoms to Bombardier Global 7500. Many celebrities use its services as well as private and public companies. Airline renamed itself in April 2002 from Executive Jet Aviation to NetJets. Its two letter code on every tail QS used to stand for Quality Service which was and still is the company's obsession. The QS now stands for Quarter Share, highlighting the Company's Fractional Ownership model. They can only fly one type and have option of 7 workdays - 7 days off schedule. In 1998, Warren Buffet's Berkshire Hathaway Inc. purchased NetJets. Berkshire Hathaway also owns Executive Jet Management of Cincinnati and markets it as a NetJets company. NetJets focuses on fractional ownership, whereas EJM provides ad-hoc charters and private jet management services. In 2021, NetJets announced a partnership with Amber Aviation (AmberNet) of Shenzen, China to launch a fractional ownership model in Asia. NetJets committed almost half of its retiring Gulfstream G450 fleet to AmberNet. Transfer of said planes was completed in August of 2022.
