Mexico's leading low cost and second largest airline (2011) . Company was founded as joint venture billonaire Carlos Slim Helú (Grupo Financiero Inbursa), Broadcast Televisa (Emilio Azcárraga), Discovery Americas Investment fund and TA Group (TACA International) each with a 25% stake. Inbursa and Grupo Televisa left the enterprise since and Indigo partners of USA bought stake. Operations commenced on March 13th 2006 from Toluca to Tijuana using brand new Airbus A319s. Its domestic network grew to 31 destinations by 2011. In November 2008 code share agreement with Southwest Airlines was reached and in April next year first transfer destinations were introduced - Los Angeles and Oakland. San Jose, Las Vegas, Fresno and San Diego has followed. In 2010 Volaris acquired slots at Mexico City International airport from defunct Mexicana/MexicanaClick. In November 2011 Chicago Midway was added as airline's 7th U.S. destination.
