Scheduled passenger airline founded and owned by Air China. Airline operated from Xianjiang (western China autonomous region) to eastern China hubs as well as international destinations in Central Asia. Bishkek, Almaty, Tashkent, Novosibirsk, Islamabad and Moscow were served from Urumuqi. In October 2002, state owned China Southern Air Holding company was established comprising of Xianjing Airlines, China Southern Airlines and China Northern Airlines. Only China Southern Airlines brand had survived and operations of both Xianjing and China Northern were integrated to China Southern Airlines operations.
