Cen-Tex began operations as an on demand and commuter carrier, operating a Navajo between Waco and Houston. It received CAB authority in August 1981 so that it could apply for essential air service contracts. In early 1984 it changed it name to Air Spirit. It began code-sharing with Braniff from Dallas to four destinations. It ceased operations in late 1984
