Although, the parent company Aviation Development company was set up already in 1984, the airline operations did not commence until January 1990. ADC operated scheduled domestic service with regional flights to neighboring Freetown, Accra and Banjul. ADC was first Nigerian airline to trade publicly when its issues were floated on Nigeria's Stock Exchange in 1994.
On October 29th 2006, one of its 737s crashed after take off near Abuja. Nigerian authorities ordered suspension of its operations following the accident. Its AOC license was withdrawn in May 2007 after ADC failed mandatory re-capitalization order by Nigeria's civil aviation administration.
