Regional airline, wholly owned subsidiary of Deutsche Lufthansa AG. In 2010 company carried 6.3 million passengers and employed 2,300 people. Company can trace its history to DLT which was founed on October 28th 1958 in Emden by Jan Janssen and Martin Decker as OLT - Ostfriesische Lufttaxi. OLT changed its name to DLT in 1974. In 1978 DLT starts to operate flights on behalf of Lufthansa on Bremen - Copenhagen and Hanover - Amsterdam routes using Short 330s turboprops. Lufthansa buys 25% stake in the regional carrier. Lufthansa's interest in DLT grew and by 1988, DLT flew all its flights exclusively for Lufthansa. In 1989 Lufthansa became majority shareholder of DLT. In 1990, DLT became first airline to order new Canadair CRJ jet and carries over 1 million passengers for the first time. In March 1992, DLT was renamed Lufthansa CityLine GmbH. In March1997 Lufthansa Cityline transferred its last turboprop a Fokker F50 to contact air and becomes all jet airline. Air Transport World (ATW) names Lufthansa CityLine the "Regional Airline of the Year 2001." In 2011, CityLine served 60 destinations with 350 daily departures from Donetsk and Chisinau in the East to Bilbao and Manchester in the West, Bergen in the North, Bari and Valencia in the South.
