Privately held, scheduled passenger airline based at Chengdu - capital of Sichuan province. Company was established as United Eagle Airlines in 2004 and commenced operations in 2005 using fleet of Airbus A319s and A320s from Chengdu throughout China. Sichuan Airline became briefly majority stake owner in 2009, but sold its share ot Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China COMAC in January 2010. Airline immediately placed order for 30 of COMAC's new regional airliner ARJ21 becoming launch customer. Simultaneously, company changed its name to Chengdu Airlines at the request of the municipal government which also holds a stake.
