note
India's leading low cost scheduled passenger domestic carrier. Spicejet launched operations in May 2005 serving Delhi, Bangalore, Ahmedabad, Goa, Jammu, Kolkata, Mumbai, Pune and Srinagar. Colombo was airline's first international destinations followed in 2011 by Kathmandu.
Airline was founded by Ajay Singh and the Kansagra family. Airline is publicly traded. In June 2010 Kalanithi Maran of Tamil TV network Sun Network acquired 37% share in the airline.
Airline appears to be in financial trouble, as all flights were grounded on 17 Dec 2014 due to non-payment of fuel bills, and several B737 aircraft have been seized/reposessed by lessors. Resumed flights 19 Dec 2014 on reduced flight schedule.
