DETA was state airline of Mozambique until November 1980 when airline was replaced by LAM Linhas Aereas Mocambique. Airline operated dense domestic passenger and cargo service with connection to Blantyre in Malawi, Salisbury in Rhodesia and Luanda from Beira. Flights to South Africa and Swaziland were operated from hub at Lorenco Marques (Maputo). Airline used Fokker F-27s and Douglas DC-3s. In December 1969 DETA received a pair of brand new Boeing 737-200s ushering the airline into jet age. In late 1970s leased Boeing 707 were briefly used on flights to Lisbon and Brussels.
