In 1950 Lanica acquired FANSA. In 1957 service to Miami was introduced. Its first turboprop aircraft was Vickers Viscount followed by first pure jet BAC 1-11 in 1965. Airline was one of a few to use Convair CV-880 jets when it leased two in 1972. Pan Am sold its interest in the company in 1974. Rulling Somosa family became majority shareholder and Anastasio Somoza became president. Because of the political situation after the ousting of Somosa in 1979, airline ceased operations. Instead, a new company Aeronica was set up in 1981 which took over most of Lanica's assets and routes.
