note
Five Star was a dba of The Interface Group which operated GWV Travel, a major tour operator. In 1984 it decided to launch its own airline to operate its tour package flights. It purchased two L-1011s from TWA and planned to operate these airplanes during the winter charter season, then lease the airplanes back to TWA during the summer. During the winter 1984-85 season, the airplanes were leased to IASCO which operated them for Five Star. In May 1985, it received CAB authority to operate domestic and overseas charters. The airline operated for four winter seasons, and suspended operations for the season on May 15, 1989. It elected not to continue operations, but leased its airplanes to American Trans Air during the winter season for operation as Five Star.
