Low cost passenger airline founded by Heli Hong Kong, a helicopter service based at Hong Kong as its fixed wing operation and Macau casino owner Stanley Ho. AOC was granted in July 2005 and airline started operations using Embraer 170 regional jets on charter flights to Taichung in Taiwan. Hong Kong Express was first airline in Asia to use Embraer 170s. In November 2006 scheduled operations commenced serving Chengdu and Xian. Hainan Group acquired stake in the airline in September 2006. In January 2007 airline received first of a brand new Boeing 737-800s, which were replaced with A320's from 2013. It sold to Cathay Pacific on March 2019 and confirmed on July 19, 2019. Temporary cancel all flight from March 23, 2020 to July 16, 2020 due to COVID-19.
