note
First low cost Indian scheduled passenger airline. Airline is wholly owned by United Breweries Holdings Ltd (UB Group), the largest Indian beverage producer. Kingfisher initially ordered 12 Airbuses A320 with deliveries throughout 2005-2006.
In April 2008, Kingfisher bought struggling low cost carrier AIR DECCAN based in Bangalore. Technically, Kingfisher was merged to holding company Deccan Aviation and than name was changed to Kingfisher Airlines. This enabled Kingfisher to start international operations 2 years earlier because Air Deccan was older of two and Indian authorities require 5 years of domestic operations before a carrier is eligible for international service. Air Deccan was rebranded Simplifly Deccan and in September 2008 Kingfisher Red and operated as low cost arm of Kingfisher Airlines. In October 2011, the owner of Kingfisher Vijay Mallay announced that Kingfisher Red will be phased out because it decided to abandon the low cost model.
Airline has highest ranking in service and customer satisfaction among Indian Airlines. Airline operates dense domestic network throughout whole of India. International destinations include London, Colombo, Dubai, Singapore, Male and Hong Kong, Bangkok and Dhaka (2009). As of 2011, Kingfisher has not made a profit since its inception.
