Ad hoc passenger charter airline founded by former airline executives Ross Fischer (People Express, Eastern) and George Lyall (Eastern, PAA). Airline commenced operations in 1991 using two Boeing 727 aircraft which grew to fleet of 8 by 1999. Primary business is air charter to leisure destinations from USA and sports team charters. Miami Air operates worldwide. Since 2002, Miami Air International is part of Civil Air Mobility Reserve for US Military and US Military contracts became significant part of its business. TSI Holdings has become controlling shareholder. Miami Air employs over 400 people (2009). Miami Air filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on 3/26/20.Ceased operations May 08,2020.
