Airline began scheduled passenger Kokomo-Chicago route April 6, 1981 with Piper Navajo. Began trading as Midway Connection in 1994. In 1993 it began operating as Markair Direct, offering connections to Markair at Chicago-Midway. In November 1993 it was acquired by Midway Aviation Services, and began operating as Midway Connection. The airline name was changed to Northern Star Airlines in 1995. It filed for bankruptcy on September 21, 1994, but reorganized in January 1995 with help from Great Lakes Airlines, operating as a Gear Lakes Link. It continued to operate a Chicago-Mattoon-Mt Vernon-Carbondale route until June 1995, when it ceased operations.
