Airline was formed in 1992 in Newcastle NSW and commenced charter service in December. In March 1994 it acquired Oxley Airline of Port MacQuire which enabled it to start scheduled operations. Impulse became feeder regional airline for Ansett in New South Wales using Beech 1900s and BAe 41 Jetstrems turboprops. In June 2000, Impulse changed strategy and became low cost no frills airline using Boeing 717s. operating along the East Coast of Australia. Since April 2001, Impulse was exclusively operating for Qantas. Qantas bought the airline outright in November and airline was integrated into QantasLink subsidiary. Airline operated as such till May 2004. Qantas transformed QantasLink in new airline entity called Jetstar Airways.
