Founded in 1980 as Princeville Airways subsidiary of Colorado based Consolidated Oil and Gas Co. and started operations between Honolulu and Princville Kaui using DeHavilland DHC-7 turboprops. Princville core business was to ferry tourists to Princville resort, but airline expanded and served other secondary destinations. In 1988 Princeville Airways was renamed Aloha Island Air (dba Island Air) after Aloha Airlines purchased the airline in May 1985. In 1992 Aloha Island Air became Island Air and in 1995 airline became FAA part 121 operator and introduced larger DHC-8s aircraft. Airline was sold to private Gavarnie Holdings in May 2004, becoming independent airline. Its corporate name was changed to Hawaii Island Air.
Operations ceased on November 10 2017.
