Founded in 1975 Alpine Air began passenger commuter service in 1982. In 1986 company was acquired by Gene Mallette who became its CEO and guided struggling carrier to profitability. In 1999, airline dropped its passenger services and focused solely on cargo, airplane maintenance, crew training and ad-hoc cargo charter. Alpine Air holds USPS contract and operates throughout Montana, Utah, North and South Dakota with contracts in Washington and Hawaii. Alpine Air Express is subsidiary of Alpine Aviation Inc. and is publicly traded.
In May 2014 Gene Mallette who controlled 80% of shares sold company to KEB Enterprises owned by Kenneth E. Brailsford who became its new CEO.
