ABAETE was founded by captain Jorge Mello as Air Taxi operator in 1979 using Piper Arrow aircraft. In 1985 ABAETE acquired Atlanta Táxi Aéreo. In1995 its business expanded into scheduled passenger service and ABAETE Linhas Aereas division was formed. Its history begins when Nordeste Linhas Aéreas was sold to RIO-SUL / VARIG and ended up leaving several destinations in the interior of Bahia without air connection. Abaeté then a respected air taxi opened its division of airline with 4 EMB110C Bandeirante and with them began to operate several destinations in the interior of Bahia like Jequié, Caravelas, Teixeira de Freitas, Bom Jesus of the Lapa, Guanambi, Barreiras, Vitória da Conquista. Over the years and the lack of investments to grow, Abaeté has been able to go over time by reducing mesh and prioritizing highly profitable destinations, and has sometimes considered the acquisition of EMB-120 Brasília and ATR-42-300 aircraft, which will never has materialized.
The airline closed operations in 2012, Abaeté air taxi division continues to operate.
