Scheduled passenger airline formed in 2000 with some of the equipment and employees of defunct TAESA. Operations commenced in June 2001. In March 2007 Azteca failed government safety inspection and government ordered it to halt its operations and come up with restructuring plan. Azteca's debt grew out of control and airline did not have enough cash to keep creditors satisfied. In October 2007 its AOC was withdrawn.
Airline served dense domestic network from its hubs at Mexico and Guadalajara as well as routes to California's Ontario and Oakland airports.
