Regional airline formed in 1980 as joint venture of Huila and Tolima districts of central Colombia. Operations commenced in February 20th 1981 using Embraer EMB-110 turboprop aircraft. In 1994 AIRES begun modernization of its fleet and received its first DHC-8 turborprop. In 1998 AIRES begun international service and Panama, Curacao and Aruba were added to its network. Two years later Maracaibo in Venezuela was served. AIRES adopted low-cost business model in 2007. AIRES ordered Boeing 737-700 and introduced the aircraft on Colombia's domestic trunk routes. In 2010 service to Fort Lauderdale in Florida commenced. In October 2010 LAN Airlines (Chile) announced that it will purchase 98.9% stake in the airline. In May 2016 it changed its name to LATAM Colombia as part of an effort to integrate the LATAM brands.
