National airline of Uzbekistan was formed from Aeroflot division in Tashkent in 1992 after Uzbekistan gained its independence from Russia. Airline started international operations to London, Delhi, Tel-Aviv and Beijing. In June 1993, airline received its first western built jet - Airbus A310, enabling UA to open routes to Frankfurt and Bangkok. In 1995 New York was added to the airline's network. In 1996 UA received its first Boeing 767-300ER aircraft which forms backbone of its long-haul fleet. Over the years UA grew steadily. Airline owns Tashkent airport and its maintenance facilities. UA also operates Bukhara, Samarkand, Termez and Urgench airports and transfered management of Navoi airport to Korean Airlines in 2008. In 2007 UA ordered Boeing 787s and Airbus A320s and new Ilyushin IL-114 (Tashkent built) as part of its long-term fleet renewal. In 2008 airline carried over 2 million passengers. Airline serves New York, Osaka, Tokyo, Beijing, Seoul, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Almaty, Urumuchi, Istanbul, Jeddah, Lahore, Sharjah, Tel Aviv, Moscow (DME), Ufa, Bishkek, Krasnoyarks, Delhi, Baku, Ekaterinburg, Novosibirsk, Rostov on Don, Samara, Sochi, Omsk, Kiev, Kazan, Riga, London, Paris, Frankfurt, Geneva and Milan.
