The first airline of Islamic world commenced operations between Dushanbe and Bukhara with a Junkers F13 aircraft. Airline operated under Tajik Territorial Civil Air Fleet Administration TTCAFA during Soviet rule. In 2007 EU banned the airline from operating in EU. Tajik Air serves domestic destinations with both helicopters and regional turbojets. Its primary international destinations are in Russia.
Tajik Air, which is state enterprise, carried 356,000 passengers in 2017.
Flights were suspended on January 10 2019 due to financial problems. Somon Air stepped in and honored tickets purchased prior the suspension.
